Festival of the Grape - Crushing it, since 1997

Festival of the Grape is hosted by Oliver Tourism Association with the help of a dedicated committee and a team of volunteers who contribute to making Festival of the Grape the most well-attended outdoor wine festival event in the Okanagan. Attracting an estimated 4,500 attendees annually this family-friendly one-day festival offers something for everyone. Start with wine tastings at one of over 50 BC wineries, cheer on one of the 24 teams in the Grape Stomp, rock out to the music of Big Easy Funk Ensemble, dine at one of over a dozen food trucks, shop at the Merchant Market or the Fall Art Show & Sale, and for little ones there’s an interactive Kids Zone.

The Festival of the Grape begins with a parade and welcome ceremony, where participating wineries arrive waiving their banners high, grape stomp competitors start to show off their costumes and dignitaries from the region welcome you to the Town of Oliver and the traditional Okanagan Nation territory, followed by Bacchus officially announces the opening of the wine tasting tents at 1 pm.

After Bacchus’s welcome, start exploring the Festival grounds - enjoy the costume judging at the Grape Stomp stage prior to the first heat, stroll the Merchant Market looking for unique-artisan wares, visit one of the many food trucks for great bites, and sample from the cornucopia of BC wines. At the same time the kids are encouraged to visit the Kids Zone with interactive games, crafts and inflatables to keep them entertained too.

GRAPE STOMP COMPETITION

Throughout the day, Bacchus calls for the Grape Stomp competitors to prepare for their event. The Grape Stomp is certainly a feature attraction as the competitors are cheered on from the audience who gathered to watch the event. Squish me, stomp me, make me wine! That is what a grape stomp competition is all about! Are you interested in entering a team? Register fast as there is limited space! This year we are opening the event to 24 grape stomping teams!

KIDS ZONE

The Festival of the Grape is an event for the whole family, as there is a Kids Zone with activity stations and entertainment. Inflatables, face painting, crafts, interactive games and more. This area is not just for the little kids, its for the big kids too! This year we are looking forward to the return of the sack races and the kids grape stomp.

Live Music by

Big Easy Funk Ensemble

The Big Easy Funk Ensemble celebrates the amazing variety of music that has grown out of New Orleans. With influences from 60’s/70’s funk legends The Meters, Allen Toussaint, and Dr. John to more recent groups like Galactic and Trombone Shorty. BEFE (pronounced 'beefy') mixes many genres of funk, jazz, rock and blues to create infectious grooves. The 9-member band includes a 3-piece horn section comprised of Andrew Benton (Sax), Kevin Tang (Trombone) and Ryan Naso (Trumpet). The rhythm section includes Reece Worth on guitar, Eric Stephenson on bass, Tyler Gibson on keyboards/organ, Ryan Davis on drums, Jeffrey Kornblum on Percussion and last but not least the mesmerizing Chris Berry on Vocals.

A Mardi Gras party in 2014 brought the band together for the first time and by the end of the show both the musicians and the audience knew that this group had to continue.  Four years and many shows later, BEFE has developed a repertoire of originals and songs covering a wide range of NOLA talent from Louis Armstrong to the Dirty Dozen Brass Band to Allen Toussaint to the Pimps of Joytime and Neville Brothers.

The Big Easy Funk Ensemble is fast becoming one of Vancouver BC’s preeminent party bands by attracting fans and stimulating dance floors.  Don’t miss their next show at a party near you!
